The Faculty of Humanities was established in 1992 in Budapest, in the convent of the Sisters of Charity. From 2012, the Faculty was renamed the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, and by the end of 2020, the Faculty moved from the Piliscsaba campus, so the Faculty currently operates two campuses in Budapest: the Sophianum, the Danubianum and one in Esztergom.
Student-Centered Quality Education, Classical Knowledge, and Innovation — this is what Pázmány Péter Catholic University offers its students. Founded in 1635 in Nagyszombat and re-established in 1992, the university is Hungary’s oldest continuously operating higher education institution. Through its diverse academic portfolio, it fosters the development of the whole human person by transmitting traditional knowledge and values, while also shaping the information society and aligning it with human fulfillment.
Our lecturers are respected scholars and professionals in their respective fields. Thanks to our favorable student-to-teacher ratio across all programs, students benefit from personalized support and the opportunity to build direct, supportive relationships with faculty. The university’s reputation provides a strong foundation for success on the job market.
We focus on education that supports everyday life while also promoting the understanding of the theoretical foundations and broader contexts. Our curriculum has long included theology, law, humanities, social sciences, information technology, and bionics. Alongside the preservation of tradition, we continuously pursue renewal. Our national and international partnerships, globally recognized research, and participation in partner school networks offer considerable opportunities. Mobility programs are also gaining popularity.
Headquartered in Budapest, the university is fundamentally shaped by its Catholic identity and the associated human and communal values. Mutual respect, intergenerational professional and social networking—from high school students to alumni—as well as attentiveness and mutual support are core to our community. Our events and student initiatives attract more participants each year.
