Committee of National Remembrance

The Committee of National Remembrance operates under the mandate of the Hungarian National Assembly. Its mission is to uncover the operation and consequences of the communist dictatorship, shape the historical memory surrounding it, preserve the legacy of victims and heroes, and enrich the knowledge of future generations.

The five-member committee—composed of professional historians—and its affiliated research institute strive to engage younger generations in various ways. They organize non-traditional history classes and academic competitions for high school students, provide conference platforms for PhD students, and use innovative tools—including short films, traveling exhibitions, educational board games, and theatrical performances—to expand public understanding of the dictatorship era.
