The Danube Institute was established by the Batthyány Lajos Foundation in 2013 in Budapest, with the aim of encouraging the transmission of ideas and people within the countries of Central Europe and between Central Europe, other parts of Europe, and the English-speaking world.
The Danube Institute was established by the Batthyány Lajos Foundation in 2013 in Budapest, with the aim of promoting and shaping conservative and national values and thinking in our ever-changing world.
In line with the main objectives of our think tank, acting as a bridge of timeless values, we see it as our mission to connect center-right thinkers, academics, politicians and those interested in public life, both at home and internationally.
Our institute aims to contribute to this transnational common thinking and dialogue primarily through networking, own research projects and analysis, and participation in knowledge transfer and the exchange of experience. In line with these commitments we prioritize:
- establishing and supporting research groups and research projects to interpret and advance current thinking within conservatism and democratic nationalism;
- supporting initiatives in line with the mission of our institute;
- patronizing young people interested in science and public life;
- and organizing conferences, public debates and discussions of national and international importance.
John O'Sullivan, the founding President of the Danube Institute, has from the very beginning represented the values and objectives of the institute he built. As an internationally-renowned opinion leader, his work has consistently promoted and continues to actively support and shape conservative and national thought and action.
