Péter Szijjártó has served as Hungary’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade since 2014, following a steady rise through government. He began his political career as a Member of Parliament for Fidesz in 2002 and is now in his sixth consecutive parliamentary term, having held roles such as Fidesz's Director of Communications, the Prime Minister's spokesperson, and Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade. In 2014, he briefly served as Deputy Minister before assuming his current ministerial role.
Szijjártó graduated from Czuczor Gergely Benedictine High School in Győr, and earned his degree in international relations from the Budapest University of Economic Sciences and Public Administration. Throughout his political career, he has played a central role in shaping Hungary’s foreign policy and international economic relations.
In addition to his political work, Szijjártó is also known for his interest in sports. Between 2011 and 2016, he was a registered futsal player, participating in two first-division and 85 second-division matches. He is Roman Catholic, married, and the father of two sons.
