Dr. habil. Mihály Balázs Mezei, DSc is a philosopher, literary scholar, and theologian of religion. A Doctor of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, he is a full member of the Saint Stephen Scientific Academy and serves on the Scientific Council of the Hungarian National Research, Development and Innovation Office. He is also former President and Vice-President of the Hungarian Association for the Study of Religion and the chief editor of both the Hungarian and English editions of the Hungarian Encyclopedia of Philosophy.
He has authored 55 scholarly books and over 250 studies in Hungarian, English, German, and French. His notable works include Philosophy of Religion (Vols. I–II, 2005), Religion and Revelation after Auschwitz (2013), Radical Revelation (2017), The Oxford Handbook of Divine Revelation (2021), Divine Revelation and the Sciences (ed., Routledge, 2024), and the forthcoming Apocalyptic Phenomenology (Routledge, 2025).
In recognition of his contributions, he received the Hungarian Order of Merit, Officer’s Cross in 2019, and the Stephanus Prize in 2025.
