James Mumford is a London-based writer, though has spent a lot of time in the U.S. - most recently in Charlottesville, Virginia, where he lectured in ethics at the University of Virginia. Mumford writes on a range of issues - literary, cultural, ethical - for a range of publications across the political spectrum in the UK and US, from FIRST THINGS to THE GUARDIAN, from THE SPECTATOR to THE NEW STATESMAN. Educated at Oxford and Yale, his most recent book was published by Bloomsbury in 2020 - VEXED: ETHICS BEYOND POLITICAL TRIBES. According to THE GUARDIAN review, this book is ‘A plea for nuance and ambivalence in a world that often seems to be in danger of mislaying both… Mumford demonstrates an admirable ability to zero in on things too often missing from political conversations…’
