Nándor Fa was born in 1953 in Székesfehérvár, Hungary. The youngest of four brothers, he initially followed his family’s tradition by taking up wrestling. After an injury forced him to leave the sport behind, he began searching for a new athletic pursuit. His deep connection to water began with kayaking and later evolved into canoeing. At the age of 27, he discovered sailing—a moment that marked the beginning of a lifelong passion and remarkable career. Over the decades, Nándor Fa has become one of Hungary’s most accomplished sailors. He has circumnavigated the globe five times, competed in three solo around-the-world races, and participated in one double-handed circumnavigation. He has rounded the infamous Cape Horn five times, crossed the Equator ten times, and sailed across the Atlantic Ocean on six separate occasions. His life reflects a rare combination of resilience, craftsmanship, and the relentless spirit of oceanic adventure.
