Born in Sweden, Benedict Beckeld emigrated to the United States as a child and became an American citizen. He holds a PhD. in Philosophy and Classical Philology from the University of Heidelberg, Germany, where he also taught Philology, and he subsequently worked as a professor of Philosophy and Classical Philology in Paris, France. His work has brought him to many countries around the world, and he is now a full-time writer residing in New York City. He specializes in political philosophy, the philosophy of history, aesthetics, and the ancient world. His latest book is "Western Self-Contempt: Oikophobia in the Decline of Civilizations", the first ever systematic monograph treatment of cultural self-hate, from Cornell University Press.
