How Are Public Education, Historical Memory, and Memorial Sites Connected? This question lies at the heart of two flagship initiatives of the Institute of National Heritage: the National Memory Education Program and the Mohács500 Project. Both offer a challenge and an opportunity to explore how, in 2025, students can be meaningfully engaged—even at the site of one of Hungary’s greatest historical tragedies. The discussion will examine what new pedagogical and community-building tools can be employed in the transmission of historical memory. In the context of the upcoming 500th anniversary of the Battle of Mohács, participants will reflect on the relationship between shared history and national identity. The National Memory Education Program brings practical examples from education and community initiatives, while the synergy between the two projects highlights how memorial sites can strengthen shared values. The goal is to spark an inspiring conversation with festival participants, as collective reflection lays the foundation for the future of remembrance and education.
