The world of work is experiencing rapid and far-reaching transformation. Demographic challenges, talent shortages, brain drain, AI and automation, the green transition, remote work, part-time employment, the four-day workweek, and commuting are just some of the major trends reshaping how people will work in the coming decades. As part of a comprehensive labor market research project, the Oeconomus Economic Research Foundation and WHC conducted an extensive survey to identify the key challenges facing the Hungarian labor market. This panel discussion, grounded in the survey’s findings, explores pressing questions such as: What do employees in Hungary truly want? What motivates them in their current roles and in changing jobs? The conversation also addresses the size and potential of Hungary’s untapped labor force, and how inactive individuals might be encouraged to re-enter the workforce. Other focal points include the importance of remote work, the willingness to commute for a job, and attitudes toward learning and upskilling while employed. The panel brings together experts to provide insights into the evolving expectations and behaviors shaping the future of work in Hungary.
