Richard Schwab is an internist and gastroenterologist.
He began his medical career under the mentorship of Professor Ákos Pap, later continuing his training through international study programs in Vienna, Basel, and London. He gained significant experience in the preclinical and clinical development of drug candidates while working with the late Professor György Kéri. He was a co-founder and board member of two precision oncology diagnostic companies, Oncompass Medicine and Genomate Health.
A pioneer in integrating molecular biology knowledge into clinical practice, he was among the first in the world to begin characterizing the microbiome—i.e., the gut flora—ten years ago. This work laid the foundation for the MiND Brain-Gut Center in Budapest, where he is a co-founder and board member.
His professional focus includes translational research and treatment of neurological disorders in connection with the microbiome, in addition to metabolic and autoimmune inflammatory diseases. He is a member of the Endoexpert group practice, which—after operating at the Buda Health Center and the Affidea Bank Center—is now launching an operative and endoscopic ultrasound unit within the MiND Institute.
