Robert Palladino assumed leadership of the U.S. Embassy in Hungary as Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. on March 7, 2025. A career member of the Senior Foreign Service, he brings a wealth of experience in navigating complex foreign policy and national security issues across Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. Prior to his arrival in Budapest, he served as Deputy Executive Secretary in the Office of the Secretary of State.
Mr. Palladino has held several high-level diplomatic and strategic communication roles. He previously served as U.S. Consul General to the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, and during President Trump’s first term, held key positions including Chief of Staff to then-Deputy Secretary of State Stephen E. Biegun, Deputy Spokesperson for the Department of State, and Director of Strategic Communications as well as acting Spokesperson for the National Security Council.
His diplomatic career includes a wide range of overseas assignments, reflecting his expertise in diverse geopolitical contexts. Before entering the Foreign Service, Mr. Palladino served in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps (JAG), practicing law in both Asia and Europe. He holds degrees from the University of Notre Dame, Washington & Lee University School of Law, and the U.S. Army War College. He speaks Mandarin Chinese and Italian, and is married with two daughters.
